Wednesdays with Minister Gordon
Charlotte Moore, Creative Consultant
Author Mitch Albom had his Tuesdays with Morrie. I'm honored to say I had my Wednesdays with Minister George Gordon.
Minister Gordon is a 79-year-old Austin man who for years yearned to write his memoir, but being totally blind, this seemed an impossible task. Until June of last year, when we connected in what felt like a pairing meant to happen.
Every Wednesday for seven months, I sat with Minister Gordon and recorded our conversations. He spoke candidly about his turbulent 20s, his raging drug addiction, his criminal activity, and two stints in Texas prisons. He described the near-death experience that left him blind and disabled, and his recovery and return to God.
For nearly 40 years, Minister Gordon has lived a sober life. His greatest pleasure is helping other addicts find health and peace.
A Prodigal Son: Lost in Addiction, Bound by Prison, Found by Grace.
Together, we wrote his memoir, A Prodigal Son: Lost in Addiction, Bound by Prison, Found by Grace. He helped me as much as I helped him—inspiring me to write my own book of essays and showing me that redemption is available to us all.
